Sacred Hebrew Chant ~ Healing Circles (2009 Training Sessions)
(The chants below were recorded in a Healing Circle for Carol Mann during August of 2008 in Walnut Creek, CA .
Carol is now quite healthy and is an active participant in our healing circles.)
One of the most powerful things about the practice of sacred chant is the palpable healing energy it can create among a group. A chanting circle is a way of tuning in to our own powers of healing. The energy derived from the combined voices and breathing of the group, the emotions that arise among participants being poured into the practice and the sacred history of all the generations who have uttered these words before, is all woven into the chants, promoting a very deep level of soul-healing.
A healing circle is simply a group of people who come together to surround a person in need. Their combined energy creates a sense of being held by the sacred phrases, being cradled in the melodies, being nourished by the community in a way that is healing to mind, soul and body.
In Jewish tradition, "healing" is not always equal to 'cure', so we offer these prayers in hope that the recipient will feel a sense of spiritual connection, that their pain might be lessened for a time, that they will be comforted by the strength of a supportive community surrounding them. A participant in the circle describes a 'spiral of energy swirling around' her and people often say they 'get more than (they) give' through this holy work. The highest intention of this practice is to 'plant seeds' to inspire the growth of new circles as a way of building the strength of the support system within a community. One of the leaders of the newest circle said, "It feels almost like God is spreading a blanket of love around the one in need of healing, and over the whole group!"
Temple Isaiah in Lafayette, California is now offering these healing circles to members of our community who are ill or dying. If you would like to participate in this project please contact the Angel Network and we will email you when there is a circle being planned.
If you are part of the Isaiah community and are in need of a healing circle, please contact Rabbi Judy Shanks.
